The Art Olympics mission is two-fold:
1. To provide PCVs with art materials and curriculum suggestions for school and community art clubs for a modest materials cost.
2. To provide Cambodian students with opportunities to practice with various fine art media at art clubs, and to inspire creativity through competition at their schools and in their provinces.
Art Olympics provides: art supplies and curriculum suggestions to PCVs who want to jump-start their own Art Club in their community. Many PCVs in Cambodia, both ETTT and CHE have started Art Clubs and we can help you start one of your very own!
Some PCVs organize art clubs at their schools or clinics. Others set up shop at their host family’s home, pagoda or community center. Any place with desks and good light will work!
What can you do with your club: We encourage you to hold mini-competitions at the club. This will help encourage students to participate. It might be as simple as hanging art in a classroom and inviting other students, teachers and parents to the show. You can also offer small prizes, like a box of pencils, and class-made ribbons or certificates help make it a special event.
Art Club and Create Cambodia? They are two different clubs and activities and if you have an Art Club you do not have to participate in Create Cambodia if you do not want to. Participating in Art Club can however help you wit Create Cambodia as it helps you organize your students, find those most interested, and plan your Create Cambodia projects.
